Advice Regarding Reproductive Options
Our expert team provides resources and support to help with reproductive decision making for couples at increased risk of genetic conditions.
Many couples do not realise they are carriers of genetic conditions, until they have genetic mutations identified through optional pre-conception carrier screening.
Identifying these risks early, increases the options available to assist couples to have healthy children:
Some options include:
Early Treatment
In some conditions, early treatment can prevent the onset of symptoms. Finding the right specialist before birth can make a big difference.
Prenatal Diagnosis
In a naturally conceived pregnancy, diagnostic procedures like chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis can be performed to determine if an inherited condition is present.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), using IVF, can greatly reduce the chance of passing on a genetic condition to a baby by testing embryos and only transferring unaffected ones to establish pregnancies.
Other Plans
Other ways of starting a family such as egg or sperm donation or adoption can also be discussed at our clinic.
